Saltwater – The fishing has been up and down lately, just like the weather. This past weekend’s frigid conditions kept many anglers grounded. The few that have gotten out this week have done well with Tautog. No surprise there, these fish are perhaps the best and most reliable game in town. Ocean wrecks are the source of the action. Saltwater – A strong bite for Tautog still exists for anglers willing or able to travel out to offshore wrecks such as the Triangle Wrecks. Other, lesser known wrecks are producing as well, but anglers prefer to keep the locations and names anonymous. However, “teen” fish are being boated regularly. Seabass are also being caught while fishing for Togs, but they must be released as the season is still closed for recreational anglers. Saltwater- A very good bite for Tautog continues on offshore wrecks such as the Triangle wrecks. Teen fish are being caught by those adept at hooking up with him. Seabass are a by-catch, but must be returned as the season is closed for now. According to reports from Oregon-Inlet, Bluefin Tuna are starting to be caught, and Yellowfin are also being caught. Deep water bottom charters are catching Tilefish, Barrel fish, Grouper, and Rosefish when conditions allow anglers to venture out.

Things have been slow over the last week, as weather conditions took center stage. Most winter anglers had to settle for tinkering with tackle and equipment as far as fishing goes. Hopefully this weekend will be much better as ramps are open and clear. Ocean wrecks are holding quality Tautog when conditions allow chasing them.
