Well this September was my worst one yet. I put more miles on my truck, and more time behind binoculars and knocking on doors than ever before, yet yielded the fewest birds. 2011 VA Duck and Goose Calling Contests

On Sunday, October 9th, the Mechanicsville Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, on behalf of VA Ducks Unlimited, hosted the VA State Championships of duck and goose calling right here at our own Green Top Sporting Goods store. This is the second year that we have hosted the VA calling contests. Dove Season Opens With A Bang! Or Three.

Ok guys, it’s that time again. Time to kick off another hunting season. For most guys, that will mean opening day of Dove Season, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  It’s a great time to dust off the old trusty shotgun, get a camo t-shirt and khaki shorts out of the closet, then pick up a dove stool, a few boxes of shells, a few decoys, some cold beverages and a small cooler to keep them cold, and then, about lunch time, to head on out to the field and … Read More »


Operation: Arkansas

It’s June, and I’m already counting down to Christmas.  Trust me though when I tell you there are no visions of sugar plums dancing in my head.  The only thing I’m dreaming about is green heads and flooded timber.  The day after Christmas I leave for my first Arkansas waterfowl hunt….
