BAY – Croaker have arrived inside the bay and some of the tributaries. Buckroe Beach Pier is reporting an increasing bite, the James River Bridge area has also been good. Some Green Top customers have reported some inside the York River. Bloodworms, Squid, and Shrimp are all working. More anglers are targeting Flounder inside the bay also. The HRBT area is good currently, and inlets like Lynnhaven and Back River are producing keepers also. The CBBT has reportedly given up a few Flounder lately. CHESAPEAKE BAY – Reports of Croaker catches are coming from the lower bay, especially from Buckroe Beach Pier. Blood worms, Squid, and fresh cut bait will produce throughout the season. We can expect this bite to increase soon in other areas of the bay also. It’s still a little slow, but Flounder catches are increasing also. Drifting 3-way rigs with minnows has been more productive lately, mainly in the shallower areas around Oyster. Mud minnows are easy to catch in the extreme shallows, and are a great offering. Shad Report
The recent rain might seem to deter the shad fishery, but actually it will probably just move them up the river to more accessible spots to the average angler. Those not in the boat crowd should look for places to get the shad on foot, as this is the time when that fishery shines.

CHESAPEAKE BAY – Flounder action is definitely improving as warm weather increases, as does the number of anglers seeking them. Live baiters are faring better right now with Gudgeons and Silversides. Lower bay structures are starting to produce, but shallow areas are attracting more fish. Speckled Trout anglers are also seeing better shallow action inside areas like Mobjack Bay, The Rappahannock River, Back River, and Lynnhaven Inlet.
